Leroy Eugene Allen
Leroy Eugene Allen, age 88, of Gibson City died at 11:50 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Allen was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Dahlgren a son F. M. and Elizabeth Goin Allen. He married Mildred Scott from LeRoy on Oct. 22, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo. She died Jan. 30, 2003.
Surviving are four sons, Kenny (Bonnie) Allen of Gibson City, Lenny (Kathy) Allen of Boise Idaho, Gary (Lynn) Allen of Gibson City and Kelley (Robbie Lee) Allen of Allen, Fla.; two daughters, Beverly (Jack) Fields, and Kathy Jo Rutledge both of Gibson City; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Harriett Marcum of LeRoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, five brothers and a sister. Mr. Allen worked mostly as a farmer in and around the area. After retiring he enjoyed mowing grass at Railside Golf Course, and working at Gibson City Car Wash. He was a lifelong Cardinals fan. Memorials may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
