Dorothy G. Amsden, 88, formerly of Rantoul, died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Gibson Area Hospital-Annex in Gibson City.
Dorothy was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Fisher, a daughter of Lee and Ivia Cook Spicer. She was a beautician and managed the beauty shop at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul for several years before starting her own shop in Rantoul. She married Howard L. Crowe in 1939 in Gibson City; she later married Dale D. Amsden in 1964 in Iowa.
Mrs. Amsden leaves two daughters, Shirley Furtney of Champaign and Beverley Crowe of Gibson City; one granddaughter, Robin Bedwell and a grandson, Robert E. Furtney, both of Champaign; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rantoul Methodist Church or the Grace Methodist Church in Decatur or to The Salvation Army.
A private burial was held in the Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City is in charge of the arrangements.
