John W. Cramer
John W. Cramer was born May 20, 1859, in Jasper County, Illinois. He was the son of Isaac Cramer who was born in Ohio, and Margaret (Curtis) Cramer who was born in Indiana.
Apparently John W. Cramer had been married prior to his marriage to Kate and he had a son Herbert Cramer who was born about 1885. John W. Cramer was married about 1904, to Katie May “Kate” (Braden) Cramer Stelplugh, a widow with a young daughter, Genene Stelplugh. Kate was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Braden and Feriba Jane (Campbell) Braden. Kate and John Cramer had at least three children together: Frank Cramer, Grace Cramer and John Cramer Jr.
John W. and Kate Cramer were in Green Township (Utica), Livingston Co., Missouri, in the 1910 and 1920 census. In 1910, they had four children with them, a son, Herbert Cramer age 16, his stepdaughter, Genene Stelplugh age ten, a son, Frank Cramer age 5, and a daughter Grace Cramer age 2.
In the 1920 census, John’s son, Herbert, had married and was living in Blue Mound Township in Livingston Co., Missouri, with his wife Bessie and two children. John W. and Kate Cramer were living in Green Township (Utica), Livingston Co., Missouri, John was age 60, born in ILL., he was farming and owned his own farm. Kate his wife was 46, born KY, and they had 3 children with them: Genene Stelplugh, age 20, born Mo. who was teaching rural school; and 2 sons, Frank Cramer age 14 and John Cramer Jr. age 7, and a daughter Grace Cramer age 12, all born in Missouri.
Until his retirement, John W. Cramer had been farming. He had been ill with heart valve disease for about fifteen years before his death. His illness became more intense in May and he died May 29, 1943, in the hospital in Chillicothe, Livingston Co., Missouri, after a seven day stay. He was eighty-four years and nine days of age. His usual residence was in Ludlow, Livingston Co., Missouri, according to the record.
Survivors included his wife Kate Cramer, she signed as informant on his death record. And I believe all his children were living as well.
Burial was on June 1, 1943, in Utica Cemetery, in Utica, Livingston Co., Missouri.
