Julia Lipscomb Owens
Mrs. Julia Lipscomb Owens of 2222 Jeffress Boulevard, South Boston, died January 2, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
Mrs. Owens was born in Halifax County on July 30, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Mr. Phillip Lipscomb and Mrs. Betty Evans Lipscomb. She was married to the late Mr. Clarence Jackson Owens and was a member of the First Baptist Church in News Ferry.
Mrs. Julia Lipscomb Owens is survived by five daughters, Ms. Hallie B. Owens of New Haven, Ct., Ms. Elaine Watkins of Montclair, N.J., Mrs. Rose Mary Samayoa of Richmond, Ms. Loretta Owens of Montclair, N.J., and Ms. Vernell Owen of Halifax; one son, Mr. Edward Owens of South Boston; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Parrie Lee Hodge of South Boston, Mrs. Ella Wilkins of Danville, Mrs. Ethel Williams of Philadelphia; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nettie Simon-Owens; one son-in-law, Mr. Nafalie Samayoa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil and Clarence.
Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Lipscomb Owens will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 11 a.m. with services at the Ebenezer C.M.E. Church. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2222 Jeffress Boulevard, South Boston, and at the family’s request there will be no public viewing.
Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
